Life is tough. Physically, you may get bruised and wounded, and
the scars we have are testaments to the experiences we have been
through. Each time our fingers run over those proverbial keloidal scars
that we bear, we are reminded of that point of injury. But we are
grateful. We survived and are strong enough to even recall it with some
degree of nostalgia. We learn from our bruises. At least, that should
have been the valuable nuggets we reaped during those times of pain.
Have you ever experienced natural calamities first hand? Have you ever suffered injuries as a result? I hope not. But for those of us Christians who have, we recall it much awe and gratitude.
Awe - because they are referred to in the insurance contracts as "acts of God" not just as a legal term, but for the truth that they basically are. They are fortuitous events under the control of a sovereign God. He is Almighty. He allowed it to happen.
Gratitude - because I am assured that in the midst of the strongest calamities, I am secure under His divine protection. I am thankful that I am alive to testify of my survival. But would it have been any different, if I were maimed as a result? I hope not. As a statement of faith, I resolve to entrust my circumstances to God. Just like the words spoken in the book of Daniel by Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to King Nebuchadnezzar as they were sentenced to the fiery furnace,
But life is like that. We get broken time and again. And it is not just physical, it is the more that emotional and spiritual aspect of us that gets hit most of the time. Pain is real. Difficulties and trials are commonplace. As a Christian, God has given us His word, the Bible. He reveals himself to us in personal ways.
Christians have a personal relationship with God. We rest in the fact that we can trust His sovereignty and goodness. He has already secured eternity for those whose faith are in Him. Will you resolve to have that hope that endures?
