Salvation in the Age of Grace

We are saved by grace. The following is the great hymn, Amazing Grace. Look at the words carefully.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
John Newton (1725-1807)
John Newton was the captain of a slave ship before he was saved and before he became a preacher. On one trip to America transporting slaves, Newton went down into the belly of that slave ship and was moved to tears when he saw those people, who were in bondage, singing in spite of their obvious misery. In 1772 Newton wrote the words above and delivered them in a sermon. The music was added later, but not by Newton himself.
Wherever Amazing Grace is played, it is instantly recognized. It is often played on a bag pipe in funeral possessions for police and firemen.
Look at these words carefully.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
What is the meaning of the words lost and found?
If you are a Bible reader or if you have ever attended church on a regular basis, you will probably remember the story of the young man who asked his father to give him his share of his inheritance and he left home. After all his money had been spent and he realized the error of his way, he went back home, willing to work as a servant if he must.
When he arrived at home he told his father "I have sinned against heaven and in thy sight and am no more worthy to be called thy son" (Luke 15:21).
The father was overjoyed at his son's return and he said to his servants:
Luke 15:22-24: ...Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
In Christendom, this is known as a parable; and a parable is comparing one thing against another or an example of biblical truth explained in a simplistic format. In this case it mirrors Christ's feelings toward the lost. We see evidence of this in Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. So in a biblical sense, the lost are any who do not acknowledge God as Lord and Jesus Christ as their Savior.
The words "found" then, would mean the lost have come to their senses, realized their sin and recognized God and Christ for whom and what they are.
When Newton penned the words, I once was lost but now am found, he was admitting he had recognized he was a sinner (lost) and that he had trusted the faith of Christ for salvation (being found).
The Gospel that Saves Today
In our Bible there are verses which tell someone how they can be found, i.e. saved. When Paul wrote to the Corinthians he tells them how they can be saved. Look at 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4: Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
Paul reminded these Corinthians of the gospel (good news) he preached unto them. He also reminded them they had believed what he preached and they were standing steadfast in that gospel. He then proceeds to tell them in the 3rd and 4th verses what they had believed: Christ died for theirs sins, was buried and rose again the third day.
That is the gospel or good news of salvation. It is the only way anyone who is lost, a non-believer, can be found - saved.
In another letter Paul wrote to the Corinthians he said, 2 Corinthians 4:3: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
Simply stated, Paul says if you cannot see the truth of the gospel he preached then you must be lost.
The Gospel According to Paul
I want you to look very closely at 1 Corinthians 15: 2 again: By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain (Underlining added). Notice the words I have underlined. Paul says you are saved if you believe what he preached unto you, and if you do not believe his teaching concerning salvation, you could believe in vain.
What does that mean, you have believed in vain? Simplistically, it states if you do not believe the gospel Paul preached, you would have failed in your attempt to be saved; or you effort was unsuccessful. Why? We are living in a period of time that the Bible refers to as the dispensation of the grace of God (Ephesians 3:2). In this dispensation, salvation is by grace and not by works.
Ephesians 2: 8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
What this says is a person who simply trusts in what Christ did at Calvary, died for our sins, was buried and resurrected the third day, he will be saved. In a prior dispensation, know as the dispensation of the Law, salvation was by works. A person was not saved by grace but by the works of the law, i.e. repent and be baptized. In this case baptism was considered a work, and if you were not baptized you could not receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The Gospel according to Peter
Unlike Paul's gospel, the gospel of Peter and the twelve is a gospel with works for the remission of sins.
Acts 2:38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
However, we are no longer under the law. We are not being led by the conditions the law imposed on believers at one time; we are led by the Spirit. And Scripture tells us if we are led by the Spirit, we are not bound to the Law.
The Gospel of Grace
Galatians 5:18: But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
I want you to look closely at Ephesians 2:8-9 again: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
The words "ye are saved through faith" are very important. The question I pose to you is; by whose faith are you saved? It is your faith that saves you or was it Christ's faith that saved you?
Look at Galatians 2:16: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified (Underlining Added).
The verse says we are not justified (saved) by the works of the law. In other words, baptism for the remission of sins will not save you today. Then what will? Simple: the faith of Christ is what saves you.
What was the faith of Christ? Christ was willing to go to the cross and shed his blood for our sins. The very act of Christ shedding his blood for remission of sins was the work which replaces baptism for remission of sins. Now, in this dispensation of the grace of God, we who believe in Jesus Christ will be justified (saved) by the work of Christ (he died for our sins).
There are far too many people who want you to believe that if you are not water baptized you will not be saved. Those people cannot give you a good answer to Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Baptism is a work that you do, and to believe that by being baptized you have remission of sins, nullifies the work that Christ did at Calvary. You have prostituted grace.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4: For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures (Underlining Added).
If you do not believe this gospel, you are lost. If you want to be found, believe the Gospel of Christ as seen in the Scripture above. It is God's grace that saves you, not a work in which you can do.
Salvation is simple, but that does not mean it is easy.
Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
The gospel of Christ is Christ died for our sins was buried and rose again for our justification. That is the simple part. Everything has been done by Christ for your salvation, but you have to trust that what he did, he died for you.
Romans 10:17: So faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The word of God for salvation is seen in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. You have read it; do you trust that what it says is true? If you do, then you are saved; again, that is the simple part.
The part that is not quite so easy to do is to admit that you need a savior. Too many people rationalize they must be saved because:
1) they were brought up in a church,
2) they attend church services regularly,
3) Momma and Daddy were Christians, so I must be too attitude,
4) they think they are a good person.
None of those things will save a lost person. Believing the gospel is what saves. Have you done that? You say: "I walked down an isle and gave my heart to Jesus when I was a teenager, so I am saved."
So, you took a walk down a church isle, what for? Was it because your sweetheart said "I'm going down and give my heart to Jesus, why don't you come with me?"
Was it because your mother said you ought to go down?
Salvation comes to the person who recognizes they are lost and realizes they need a Savior and then trusts in the work of Christ to save them. Have you done that?
If you walked down an isle but did not believe the gospel, you took a walk for nothing. You do not need to go to church to be saved. You do not need to walk an isle and have a preacher shake your hand and commend you for having done so. You can trust Christ as Savior at home, in the woods or in your car.
Salvation comes to those who believe Christ paid a debt for their sins. Have you done that?
Remove the blinders and see the truth of what Christ did for you and you will be saved. Recognize you are a sinner and you need a Savior and God will save you, right where you are.
Will you do that right now?
If you do that, you are a child of God and will spend eternity with God in heaven. If you don't trust Christ, you are a child of the devil and will spend eternity in Hell.
The choice is yours. What will you do? Which path will you take?
There are many people who have postponed trusting Christ as their savior, saying I have plenty of time to. Do you?
The following lyrics were written by Connie Smith.
Got up on Sunday morning, went to the church at ten, I listened to the words I'd heard time and time again.
The preacher spoke of sinful lives, Lord it seems he spoke of mine, But I was young I had plenty of time.
Plenty of time to decide where I'm bound,
to eternal darkness or to a Heavenly crown oh, oh
I'm just a young girl not yet in my prime, so I'll
just wait I've got plenty of time.
I walked on down life's pathway living as I chose to live. Out to beat the other fellow how to get what life could give Making money isn't sinful Lord having fun is not a crime. So I'll just wait I've got plenty of time
Plenty of time to decide where I'm bound to
eternal darkness or to a Heavenly crown, Oh! Oh!
I'm just a young girl not yet in my prime so I'll
just wait I had plenty of time
Before I knew what happened life scenes had passed away;
and millions stood before God's throne for it was judgment day.
Now eternity beckons and the name it calls is mine
But I thought that I had plenty of time.
Eternity waits I've got plenty of time,
To think of all the days that Christ could have been mine,
Now my chance is over, earth's days are left behind,
And here am I, I've got plenty of time.
Now I've got nothing but plenty of time.
Time is a precious commodity. None of us knows what tomorrow has in store for us. You could go to the doctor tomorrow and be diagnosed with a terminal illness.
You could wake in the morning, get in your car or truck and be killed in an accident. You could be eating in a restaurant and get choked and die before someone could give you the Hymlick maneuver.
Fact is: no one knows when they will breathe their last breath. Why don't you simply trust what Christ has done for you - right now?
If you'll do that, you can make the words of Amazing Grace your own words.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Day of Salvation

From my previous articles, I have established that we all need salvation because of the sin of Adam that imparted the nature of sin unto humanity. And as a result we all are unholy before God and that deprived us from pursuing the holy purpose of God for our lives. Again we saw that because God is love, He made plans to save us and that plan was the coming of Christ. Christ paid the price for our salvation through His spotless blood. Therefore salvation is available to everyone that believes. All this mean salvation is as close to you as the air you breathe, and it is available and accessible to all.
Just as we have seen, the grace that brings salvation has appeared to all men in the person of Jesus Christ. Christ is the one sent by God to bring salvation to mankind.
Many people have claimed to come from God with one message or the other, but Christ is the only One sent by God with an assignment to save man from sin (Matt. 1:21).
Jesus, the anticipated messiah of the Old Testament, has come, and thus salvation has come. He has come and the door of salvation has been opened unto all men to make the decision to enter. This door of salvation will be opened for a period of time until the end of the world (John 3:16, Rev 3:8 - 9).
Now we are in the season of salvation when everyone can freely and easily be saved by the Lord Jesus, and be cleansed from all sins through the blood of Jesus Christ. However, the Bible speaks of the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:1-2
1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Today is the day of salvation - this means, today is the day you can be saved. You cannot afford to wait till tomorrow or next year to be saved. Tomorrow is not the day of salvation. Next week or next year is not the day of salvation. You are not supposed to be saved in the future. You are ordained to be saved today.
Many people are hoping to be saved. Many people, like the orthodox Jews, are still waiting for the messiah to come so that they can be saved. Others don't even know that salvation has come. Some people say, I will accept salvation few minutes before I die just like the thief that was crucified closed to Jesus.
Beloved, I want you to know that the greatest frustration comes when you live your life in "suppose" and assumption. It is better for you to take delivery of what God has provided so that you can be on a safe side no matter what happens.
The Scripture in Hebrews 3:7-13 admonished us not to postpone our salvation to another day. Today, as we hear God's voice calling us unto salvation, we should hearken and receive the free gift of salvation that God has given in the person of Christ Jesus.
While it is called today (not tomorrow) we should exhort - encourage, stir up and remind one another to be saved. This is because you cannot guarantee your salvation tomorrow. You may never see that tomorrow, so the Bible is saying don't procrastinate your salvation. If you are not saved, I am exhorting you to be saved today.
God has limited today for your salvation. As you hear His voice, don't harden your hearts (Hebrews 4:7). I have read and heard of people who eventually refused to be saved even when they repeatedly heard the voice of the LORD calling them unto salvation. I don't want you to be among such people. You can be saved today.
THE CHOICE IS YOURS
One characteristics of God is that He does not force us against our will. He gives us the privilege to make choice as stated in Deuteronomy 30:19. Also, in the book of Joshua, He said we should choose who to save (Joshua 24:15). This point to the fact that God is eagerly waiting for your choice and decision to be saved. He has done His part in bringing salvation to us, but it is now our part and responsibility to accept and enter into the salvation that He has given us.
THE DOOR OF SALVATION
Maybe you want to be saved, (and God is ever ready to save you,) but you are asking how can you be saved? In other words, what is the door of salvation?
Salvation has one entrance door. And you need to enter through that door only. The door is not a church, mosque, religion, prophet or a movement. The door of salvation is Jesus Christ Himself (John 10:1). Some people say there are many ways to God. That is not true because it cannot be justified. The door to salvation is Christ Jesus.
To be saved, you must enter through the open door of salvation which is Jesus Christ. Until you come through Jesus Christ, you cannot be saved (John 10:9-11)
Jesus emphatically said He is the way (John 14:6). So He is the way that leads to the life that salvation offers. God sent only Jesus to save mankind (John 3:16-17).
You may also want to know how to enter the door of salvation. It is simply by believing and confessing that Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour of your life.
To be saved or receive salvation, all you need do is to believe that Jesus died for your sins, and was raised from the dead for your salvation. After believing, you need to say it with your mouth and confess that you received Him as your Lord (Romans 10:6-10).

The Way To Salvation

I have been listening to a Christian radio program where the listeners call in to a panel of two or three pastors and ask questions about Christianity. I was shocked to hear about so many Christians who were filled with fear and anxiety about their salvation. This shouldn't be!
I feel we need to go back to the beginning of the gospel and start again. The Christian message of salvation is very simple and should be kept that way. The trouble is just as it was in Jesus' time. People who don't fully understand or people who pervert the message for selfish reasons make it hard for the simple person just trying to get to know God and make it to heaven.
If you're a Christian and your Christian experience is filled with ups and downs then it is apparent that you are mixing works and faith together. Works and faith need to be kept separated. Just like oil and water faith and works don't mix. A deadly mistake that we make is trying to work out our own salvation through works. As long as we are on this planet we will always be sinners. No matter how hard we try we can never change this fact about ourselves.
Let's take a look at Jesus' words in Matthew 11:29-30, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
If you are on the right road you will find this verse to be true. No struggles about your salvation. You believe you are saved by grace and robed in Christ's righteousness as stated in the Bible. If you read this verse and say "I wish this were true" then you are probably trying to work for your salvation instead of believing in the work Jesus did for you on the cross.
If you are trying to work for your salvation you are telling Christ that His death on the cross wasn't enough and the work you are doing is actually counted against you. As you will see when Jesus told those people "I never knew you" In Matthew 7:22-24 we read, "Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! Also in Romans 4:4 we can see that the person who is trying to work their way to salvation is instead of storing up treasure in heaven they are actually storing up debt. "Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt."
The people Jesus never knew were the people who were trying to get to heaven by their own works instead of developing a relationship with Jesus. That's really a shame because knowing Jesus and going to heaven is not that hard to do as we will see.
It would help to start with the official meaning of the word gospel. According to Google "Gospel is the translation of the Greek noun euangelion "good news," and the verb euangelizo, meaning "to bring or announce good news." Both words are derived from the noun angelos, "messenger." In classical Greek, an euangelos was one who brought a message of victory or other political or personal news that caused joy. In addition, euangelizomai (the middle voice form of the verb) meant "to speak as a messenger of gladness, to proclaim good news." Further, the noun euangelion became a technical term for the message of victory, though it was also used for a political or private message that brought joy."
In today's language this would be equivalent to someone telling us that we won the 300 million dollar lottery. We would be thrilled! And so should we be thrilled when we hear that God has paid the full price for us to be with Him in heaven! We see this in 1 Chronicles 16:23 "Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day"
Our salvation is a gift from God. Accept the gift graciously. Stop trying to earn it. This is how easy it is to attain salvation.
Here are a few of the many verses explaining to us just how easy salvation is to attain. Our first verse is found in Romans 10:9, "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:13, "For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Acts 16:30-31, "And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved? So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
One of the most famous verses in the Bible pertaining to salvation and one of the verses most of us should read every morning is found in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." We also see this in Titus 3:5, "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,"
I know something as valuable as salvation we tend to want to earn it. We try to be good enough to earn God's favor. However God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows that we are born with a sin nature and no matter how hard we try we will always eventually fail. That's why salvation is a free gift. If we had to work for our own salvation we would always fail and so fails anyone who tries to be good enough.
Nobody knew this more than Jesus. During Jesus' ministry He had to contend with Judaism, the Jewish religion which consists of hundreds and hundreds of laws that the Jew had to keep or pay the consequences. One day Jesus was approached by some Jews who wanted to know what laws they were to keep in becoming a Christian. We find this in John 6:28-29, "Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."
There is also another easy way to be saved. A way in which you will always know that no matter what happens or how bad you fail you are going to heaven and nothing can change that fact. Let's look at Ephesians 1:13;
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
The above verse is telling us that if we read the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and we honestly believe that what we read is the truth, at that time God will seal us with His Holy Spirit. Once you are sealed with His Holy Spirit you are God's and nothing on this planet can change that fact. You are heaven bound! We see this in 2 Corinthians 1:22, "who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee." And also in Ephesians 4:30, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."
I know one of the main problems why people fall into these traps is they are reading verses that they are misunderstanding. Here's one of the main verses that can cause a lot of trouble for the new believer as well as the seasoned believer. The verse is found in 1 Peter 1:16, "because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."
On the surface this verse seems straight forward and easy to understand. This verse is probably single handedly the verse most responsible for Christian believers walking around with their noses in the air trying to work out their salvation with the attitude "I am better than you."
If the person reading this verse would stop and think about it for a minute they would see that as long as they are in their human bodies and under the curse of sin their chances of becoming holy are slim and none. So what does this verse mean?
I believe the right translation would be "God said, because I am holy, you are holy." And of course I do have verses to back up my belief. In Galatians 2:20 we read, "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."
The Bible teaches that when we believe we become new creatures and all things become new. The Bible also says that our new lives are hidden in Christ which means when God looks at us He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ and not our righteousness which is compared to "filthy rags." we see this in Colossians 3:3, "For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." And also in Isaiah 64:6, "But we are all like an unclean thing, And all righteousness's are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away."
As Christians we have to remember that we don't get to heaven using our own righteousness. There is no such thing as any human beings getting to heaven using their righteousness. In Romans 3:10 we read, "As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one;" This next verse in Ephesians 2:5-7 is telling us that we are together with Christ. Since God dwells in us God's holiness is our holiness. " even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus."
We can clearly see in the next two verses that we are clothed in God's righteousness and not our own. In Isaiah 61:10, we read "I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." And also in Jeremiah 23:6, ""In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell securely; And this is His name by which He will be called, 'The LORD our righteousness."
Because we are "in Christ" we become a part of God. God lives in us and we live in God. Because of this fact we can honestly say that God's holiness is our holiness. Because of Christ we are already holy so it's pointless to try to be holy using our own efforts and making a lot of enemies in the process.
There is another verse that has been misunderstood and taken out of context, the verse I am referring to is found in James 2:20, "But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?" This verse is used by the Christian cults to fool you into working for your salvation. If we look at a few more verses we will be able to see what is meant by this verse. In James 2:18, we read "But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
What James is saying is when you become a Christian you will be a different person. What was once important to you suddenly becomes unimportant. You will see things in a different light. Your eyes will be opened and your works will naturally follow your faith. We can see this in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." We also see this in Corinthians 3:11 and Corinthians 3; 16, "But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ... 3:16, "Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."
I know many people are afraid of Christianity because they are afraid God is going to ask them to do something they don't really want to do. That just doesn't happen because we take on God's nature and God's will becomes our will without us even realizing that this is taking place. We can see this in Philippians 2:13, "for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure."
The one thing in my Christian life that motivates me is explained best by the late Pastor Chuck Smith in his book "Why Grace Changes Everything" and I quote;
"What's especially exciting about fellowship with God is that the more we experience it, the more we desire it. The more we are personally touched by the peace and fulfillment of intimate communion with the Father, the harder it is to live without it. When we find ourselves out of fellowship, an inner emptiness calls us back to prayer and the word."
The Bible verse that supports what Pastor Chuck is saying is found in Romans 8:16, which declares "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God," When this happens you will feel on top of the world. You will feel that you have achieved and that the Holy Spirit will forever be filling you. Unfortunately the times I have encountered this filling of the Holy Spirit it lasts for the day and is gone until next time. I suppose that is what is meant by the just shall live by faith. If the filling of the Holy Spirit stayed with us continually all the time it wouldn't require any faith to believe in God.
In my early days as a Christian and even today the one verse that has helped me the most is "I believe by faith in God's word. Not by my feelings." Or simply put "not by feelings but by faith."
Are we saying then that works aren't important? Not at all! The Bible says that we were created for good works. Good works are very important. We just need to remember to keep our salvation and our works separate. Once you are saved salvation is completed through the cross of Christ. That's a done deal! Once you accept Christ, Jesus says that "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Never means never. Even the times I turned my back on God after I was saved God never left me and He will never leave you either.
Once you believe the gospels of the Bible and you accept God's free gift of salvation tuck that away in your mind. That's your ticket to heaven and not you or anybody else can change that. That's how bad God wants to save you. The Bible says that when one sinner repents (turns to God) the angels in heaven rejoice. We can find that verse in Luke 15:7, "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance."
With all these verses there shouldn't be any reason for a believer to ever doubt their salvation. Here's another verse confirming this very point. The verse is found in John 10:29, "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand."
So relax and celebrate your new or not so new salvation. Read your Bible daily and draw close to God and God will draw close to you. Rest assured that your salvation is in very good hands!
When I first read this next verse I said to myself how can this be possible? That verse is found in Hebrews 4:16, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."Then it came to me that when we approach God we are robed in Christ's righteousness and not our righteousness. When God sees me God sees the perfect life that Jesus Christ lived with that being so I can now come boldly to the throne of grace with my prayers and requests knowing that God loves me and wants to know me.

Christ's Death: Was It Good Enough?

I was feeling very heavy and burdened, or as some people put it, I was depressed. The weight of my sin was hanging on me and I felt that I had to do something about it. My wife suggested that I meet with our pastor, so I called him and set up an appointment.
The pastor and I sat at the table as I began to outline to him why I was certain that God was punishing me. I had committed some sins and felt that God had allowed our son to die because I had been such a sinner. I had scripture references all lined up and I fully expected him to agree with me that, yes, I was a rotten, horrible sinner and God was angry with me.
But instead of agreeing with me, he looked across the table and asked, "What, wasn't Christ's death good enough for you?"
It hit me pretty hard, but I realized that he was right. God wasn't punishing me, I was punishing myself. God had forgiven me, but I had not forgiven myself.
In Galatians 3:3, Paul writes, "Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?" He was confronting the Galatians because they were falling into the mistake of believing that they needed to be circumcised and obey the Law of Moses. And when we look at Paul's statement, we can see that it has broad implications for us.
We may not be looking to be circumcised, or obey the law, but we might find ourselves believing that God only loves us when we read our Bible for an hour a day and pray for at least two hours each day. And while those things are good, and we should always want to spend more time with God, those things do not make us more righteous.
Ephesians 2:8-10 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
In his letter to the Philippians, Paul talks about the righteousness that we have by faith in Christ (Philippians 3:8-9). Our righteousness is not our own, it is God's gift. God gives us His righteousness when we put our faith in Christ. There is nothing that we can do to earn it, and there is nothing that we can add to it, it is already perfect and complete.
We come boldly before God's throne because Jesus died for us and paid the price for our sins. We never have to be afraid, and we never have to try and earn His love. He loved us while we were still sinners, and as His children He loves us even more.
If you are in Christ, you have been given the most incredible gift, God's righteousness. Let the knowledge of His saving grace sink deeply into your heart, and know that God is working in you both the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him (Philippians 2:13). We never have to struggle and wonder about being good enough, because Christ was perfect, and we are perfect in Him.
When you feel that you have to try and earn God's love, or His favor, just ask yourself the question: Was Christ's death good enough for me? The answer should be a resounding: Yes!

Why a Bible Christian Has Abundant Safety and Assurance in the Lord Jesus Christ

A christian of the Bible has absolute safety and assurance in Jesus our Lord. You've heard the old saying, there's safety in numbers? Well, since God out numbers all our enemies, why are you afraid of anything? The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.(Ps.37:23)
Story illustration
Many years ago an old timer in the hills of Tennessee was taking a walk which led him past a cave, nearly hidden by bushes. Just before reaching cave, he saw a movement. It was a black snake, which came out, took a few bites of a certain plant, then returned back into the cave. The snake did this 2 more times, each time returning back into the cave for a few minutes. The older man reasoned that the black snake was fighting a deadly rattler and that he came back out to bite the plant to offset the poison. To test his theory he quickly dug up the plant and hid. Sure enough the blacksnake came out, trying to find the plant, then soon curled up and died. The devil tries to poison us with doubt and unbelief and great fear. However, as we read our Holy Bible, pray, and simply trust our Lord, we will have our antidote to see us through.
The empire of Caesar is long gone. The legions of Rome are moldering in the dust. Napoleon avalanches that he hurled upon Europe are forever melted away. Pharaoh and his armies are destroyed. Their great pyramids which they raised to be their tombs are even now sinking in the desert sands.
We are living, I feel, in the most unsure tide of our nations finances, of any time I can remember in my 61 years of living. Many are pushing global unity so we can be as one. Sin is rampant, like a pot boiling over, ready to spill out.
Our American flag is no longer respected. The right of abortion for every American woman is being given back to them. Young girls once again, pregnant, can have abortions, hiding this from their parents.
The answer is Jesus Christ. He's more than enough. He won victory for us on Calvary several thousand years ago. Dare to say no to satan. Have the fortitude and guts to say yes to our captain, God Almighty. He'll see us through.
Christians of the Holy Bible have safety that is abundant, with the assurance of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. A win-win situation for all true believers.

Relationship with Christ

We, Christians know through the teaching of the Holy Bible, that Christ is the only Savior. He is our only hope, for us to be saved from the wrath of God on Judgment day. And we all know what to do so that Christ will save us, and that is, to have a relationship with Him.
But is it really true that only those who are related to Christ have the opportunity to receive the promised salvation by Christ? In John 15:6 Christ said that those branches that will be cast out will be thrown into the fire.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. (John 15:6, NKJV)
In other words, those branches that will remain from the vine will not be thrown into the fire. And the burning by fire will be on the judgment day.
40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. (Matthew 13:40, ibid)
Then who is the vine and who are the branches? The vine is Christ and the branches are those who are related to Christ.
5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:5, ibid)
Therefore, it is true that those who are related to Christ will be not thrown into the fire, or they will be saved on judgment day. However, we still don't know who really are those related to Christ.
And to know them, we will first answer this: What does it mean, that Christ is the vine and those people who are related to Christ are the branches? Christ as the vine and the people as the branches is the same as saying Christ is the head of the body. The body is the Church.
18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (Colossians 1:18, ibid)
So, if the branches referred to is the church, thus only the members or parts of the church of Christ will be saved on judgment day, because they have relationship with Christ. The relationship we're talking here is Christ as the head and the church as His body. Why is it, that only those who are inside the church of Christ will be saved? It is because Christ will save His church.
23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. (Ephesians 5:23, ibid)
Just as it was said on that verse, Christ is the savior of the body. If Christ is the savior of the body (His Church), who then will save those who are outside his church?
13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore "put away from yourselves the evil person." (I Corinathians 5:13, ibid)
According to Apostle Paul, outside God judges. And what will happen to those who are outside the church, as God judgment to them? Back to the first verse we use, they will be thrown into the fire.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. (John 15:6, ibid)
Therefore, it is the teaching of the Holy Bible that those who are related to Christ are the ones who have the opportunity to be saved on judgment day. And those who are really related to Christ are only those who are parts of his body, or members of his Church. Those who are not members of the Church of Christ will receive God's judgment which is to be thrown into the fire. So, if you want to be saved on judgment day, make sure to become members of the true Church of Christ.

Salvation - 10 Things That Will Transform Your Life

Transformation does not take place in one's life because of willpower or one's ability to think hard. Salvation is available to whosoever will take it. When one takes it, they have no choice but to be transformed. I can't explain it. I experienced it and I would desire that you too be saved. There is nothing better than the prospect of living that full, abundant life in God. I share ten life transforming things in this article pertaining to salvation.
1. Acknowledging that you are insufficient by yourself and that you need divine intervention because of your sinful nature will open up your life to the possibility of receiving Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and savior.
2. Believing in the LORD Jesus Christ and His power to save you. When you come to Him you must believe that Jesus is who He says He is and that He is able to do everything that the Bible says He can do. When I believed in Him, I committed my life to the cause of the cross and I am enjoying it.
3. Confessions of sins and asking for forgiveness. This is where the transaction takes place. It is the place of surrender, the place of exchanging the broken pieces of your life for the wholeness that comes from Him. You can begin again as a result of this relationship that starts at the foot of the cross.
4. Denying your past life of sin and debauchery will lead you into a new face of living a meaningful life
5. Evangelizing will strengthen your own walk as you begin to share with others the goodness of God in your life
6. Faith will begin to grow as you cultivate a culture of reading the word of God and prayer
7. Giving will begin to unlock the windows of heaven as you begin to understand principle of seed - time and harvest and tithing of your increase as you are
8. Healing of past hurts and bitterness will be available to you to access because that is your portion in the Lord. Sin is like an infection that leads to death, only the oil of the Spirit of God can disinfect and bring healing.
9. Issues that you couldn't by yourself will no longer make you feel inadequate as you begin to take everything to God in prayer because in Him you live and move and have your being
10. Jesus Christ the anointed takes personal responsibility for your life as you begin to operate with the mind of Christ and living in constant fellowship with Him and taking on His Godly character and characteristics
These things, simple and basic though they may sound can be experienced by anyone who will humble themselves and admit that life without God is an unpleasant and fruitless search for the thing you cannot find. It is a privilege that can be likened to none to be able to hear the good news and respond to them. I heard these simple truths at an early age and have been living the Kingdom life since then and I highly recommend it to you.

Your Eternal Salvation

The question of eternal salvation is one that each of the world's four major religions (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism) offers a different take on.
According to the Christian view on salvation, there is agreement that you can only attain your eternal salvation after accepting Jesus Christ into your live and following his teachings, though different schools of thought in the Christian church have different takes on what makes the acceptance of Jesus Christ into one's life; with the Catholics leaning more towards baptism (as the mark of birth into the Christian family destined for eternal life) and protestants leaning more towards the prayer of confession - as the act through which one is born into the Christian family, which is destined for salvation. All in all, there is agreement in the Christian community that once one has accepted Jesus and invited him into their life; they have to lead a life which is pleasing to God if they are to have eternal salvation.
Islam's take on your salvation is somewhat more like the protestant Christian take on the same, where it is your confession of the Shaada' (the confession that there is only one God, and Allah is his name, and Mohammed is his prophet), which gives you entry into the Muslim family destined for eternal salvation. But that having made that confession, you have to live a life that is pleasing to God if you are to get that salvation when you die, and in the day of Qiyama (at the end of the world).
The Buddhist take on the question of your eternal salvation, on the hand is to the effect that to get that eternal salvation, you have to overcome the cycle of reincarnation (deaths and rebirths). This can be achieved mainly by works of good (good Karma) and meditation. Should you find enlightenment during your meditation in your lifetime, according to the Buddhists, then you would become a Buddha yourself - and thereby have found your salvation from the cycle of rebirths and deaths. But even if you don't find enlightenment in your lifetime, but continue to do good (improve your Karma), you increase your chances of being borne in a higher form - that is, as a better being - the next time, which would significantly increase your chances of finding enlightened, and thereby gaining your salvation - and getting freed from the cycle of rebirths and deaths. Of course, the finer nuances of how to go about seeking your eternal salvation differ from one Buddhist sect to the other - but the basics hold true throughout the religion.
The Hindu take on the question of your eternal salvation is somewhat close to that of Buddhism (Buddhism itself having been born in India - the cradle of Hinduism - before spreading into the other parts of Asia, where it found even wider acceptance). So in Hinduism, getting your salvation is all about overcoming the cycles of death and rebirth, something that is attainable through piety and doing goods works.

In Christ

There are other prophets, but only Jesus Christ was foretold hundreds and thousands of years before he came to earth. Only the Son of God created all things (COL 1:16). Only the one that called himself "The son of man" lived a perfect life and died to forgive the sins of believers. Only Jesus gives abundant life. This article may be published if the resource box is left intact.
The term "In Christ" is used 89 times in the New Testament, which shows the importance of being in him. From Romans 6:11 to First Peter 5:14, we are bombarded with "In Christ." It appears in almost every chapter, usually several times. If we glance at a couple of books, it will show how often the term is used. In the book of Ephesians it occurs nine times. In the book of Colossians, it occurs six times.
Many consider Christ a great man but nothing more. Men put others equal to or greater than Christ, but examination of the passages about Christ shows he alone can lead us to the Father. Jesus emphatically stated "If you do not believe I am the one I claim to be, you will die in your sins." (JN 8:24) "I am the gate; whoever enters through me, will be saved" (JN 10:9). Anyone who does not believe him is condemned. (JN 3:18) Salvation is in Christ (2TI 2:10). There is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) We must have faith in Christ to be saved. (2TI 3:15). In the light of such plain passages, how can anyone depend on any other for salvation?
The two words, "In Christ" encompass the entire scope of Christianity. It is the place to be if you want to be saved. Paul used them for every aspect of salvation. To mention them in association with someone is to signify that person is in a saved condition. If a deceased person is in Christ, his or her soul is already in the presence of God.
All spiritual blessings are in Christ (EPH 1:3). There are none outside him. It is not enough to attend church, to believe that Christ is the son of God and to trust him to save you. You must be in him. What then, does it mean to be in Christ? To have any spiritual benefits we must be members of his body, (EPH 5:30; RO 12:5), which is his church (COL 1:18:), and of which he is the head (EPH 1:22).
We inherit eternal life from Christ. A will is not in effect until the testator has died. (HEB 9:15-17). We must comply with the terms in the New Testament, his last will. This includes believing in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31), calling on his name (RO 10:13), repenting and being baptized (Acts 2:38). Baptism is the final step that puts us into Christ (RO 6:3).
If you are in Christ, you are in the kingdom. Paul declared that he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the son he loves (C0L 1:13). Being in Christ, being saved, in the body, the church and the kingdom are the same.
You might think you can be saved outside of the church. If that were the case then Christ purchased the church with his own blood (Acts 20:28) for nothing. Do you think God would have sent his son to a horrendous death if the church was not necessary for your salvation? If so, what does that make God? Could you trust a God that caused his son to die for nothing?
Words cannot do justice to the subject of being in Christ. The entire scope of God's plan for mankind is wrapped up in Christ. The gift of God is eternal life in Christ. (RO 6:23) All of the promises of God are yes in Christ (2CO 1:20). The death of Christ was the most important event in history. The salvation of all people from the beginning of time until he comes again depend on this event.

Salvation Has Come

In my previous article I established that man needed salvation because man made an exchange of nature. Man abandoned his holy nature which is compatible with God (because it is from God) to accept the nature of sin which was impacted by the devil through sin. As a result, the entire human race became dead of God's nature.
It was this sin nature in man that made God to drive man from pursuing divine purpose, divine position and accessing God's provisions. The sin nature brought death, sickness, hatred, diseases, satanic captivity, etc upon mankind, chaos and disorder on the entire universe.
However, in the midst of this dilemma, God gave a promise of salvation for man (Gen 3:15). God in His love planned to save man from the captivity of sin and destroy the nature of sin so that man could put on His holy nature as before. This plan will require the giving of the holy life of God through the human life. The process to accomplish this plan is what we do refer to as redemption. Redemption is therefore the process which God took to bring salvation to mankind.
One important thing that we must know is that if man is to be saved, it is going to be by the grace of God. Grace here is the undeserved, unmerited favour and love which God demonstrated unto man in bringing him unto Himself. This means, man was not going to be saved by his efforts or act of righteousness. The foundation for the saving of man is going to be from outside man entirely - without the efforts and actions of man. This is because man could not save himself from the position of sin that he was. So, he needed help from outside him. And that help was the demonstration of God's grace. Scripture says clearly that we are saved by grace which is of God (Ephesians 2:8-9).
You see, we (man) do not merit salvation, we do not earn it, and it is not a reward of the work we rendered. It is not a product of our efforts. Salvation is solely the act of God's love demonstrated to undeserved men. So, from this understanding, salvation is not a product of man's work and so, man cannot make any form of boast. Salvation is of God's work.
Now if grace is the key to man's salvation, this grace must come before man could be saved. The coming of Jesus was the coming of that grace (John 1:14, 16).
Jesus is grace personified. He being righteous came to die for sinners. He came to give His life a ransom for man (Matthew 20:28, 1 Tim. 2:6). As a matter of fact, He came and demonstrated God's love unto people that hated Him, and wanted Him dead. This is what grace really means.
Through His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus released grace upon everyone who calls on Him to be saved. It is in Jesus Christ we can receive grace for salvation. Grace for salvation only came through Jesus Christ the Son of God and only in Him can one be saved.
Now the price for this grace to bring redemption to mankind was the offering of the blood of Jesus - that is, the giving of the life of Jesus - who has the holy nature of God. Scripture says, Christ as a Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world (Rev 13:8). "Slain from the foundation of the world" reveals the intention of God in sending His Son to die for the salvation of mankind in due time.
Jesus came to earth not as a prophet but as the salvation of mankind (Matthew 1:21, John 3:16). He is the One ordained and sent by God to bring us from sin. And because Jesus brought grace unto man that results in salvation, it is only in His name can we be saved. Peter testified that "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).
Since Jesus had come, died, was buried and resurrected, and right now seating at the right hand of God, the grace for salvation has appeared to everyone (Titus 2:11). This means everyone who wants to be saved can now simply receive their salvation through this grace in the person of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is now available to everyone because grace that makes us to be saved has already come. Salvation is now for all men not just a few persons, and this includes you. Jesus was that grace, and He has paid the price for this grace to save us from sin. Salvation is therefore come unto the sons of men to escape the corruption that is in this world.
Because Jesus has come, grace has come and thus salvation is come unto man. If you are not saved, will you accept this grace today so you could be saved? Your answer should be yes because salvation has things that accompany it.
